2019 Lincoln MKZ Review & Changes – The Lincoln MKZ is now in its second generation, and merely acquired a major upgrade for the 2017 model year. By 2019, it may be dead, by a record from Autoline Every day. Based on the video news service, the mid-size Lincoln four-door will be axed close to the end of the decade, when the current model reaches the end of its existence routine.
Autoline’s John McElroy cites a record from AutoForecast Alternatives, which claims several manufacturing goes will pressure the MKZ’s loss of life. The key one of them: Ford will transfer the Focus to the Mexico construction herb in which the MKZ is built. It may shift the MKZ to Michigan, but its Smooth Rock plant is becoming converted into an electric- and autonomous-car center.
McElroy states the Ford luxury brand will focus its resources on crossovers and SUVs, but it’s improbable this is the end for a mid-size Lincoln sedan. Ed Kim, v. p . of AutoPacific, feels the MKZ title will be decreased from the Lincoln selection–but forecasts a new name will locate its way on to a successor. “We saw a shift with the 2017 Continental, it was the first Lincoln item that gone far from alphanumerics to a new labeling framework,” Kim says. “The MKZ label will be set out to pasture but something useful will replace it, and it will have a real name.” While the Lincoln collection is straight down on crossovers and SUVs when compared with the Germans, Kim provides, “The part of a sedan is probably more valuable for Lincoln than it is for other brands simply because it is a brand that also has attractiveness with old and standard clients. These customers like sedans to crossovers and SUVs.”
AutoPacific data reveals the MKZ was one of very best-marketing Lincolns very last year, at 30,500 models in 2016. Just ahead of it: the midsize MKX crossover SUV at 31,000 units. AutoPacific states the MKZ successor will be constructed on the new D6 platform, as will the next Ford Explorer and Fusion. The modular platform can be built in front-, rear-, or all-wheel-drive type. Kim claims if Lincoln’s smart, its MKZ substitute will be rear-wheel drive.
